Position: Part-time Museum Educator
Department: Education
Supervisor: Manager of Visitor Services and Programs
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for implementing programs within the museum and the community including art classes, science classes, and drop-in workshops. Dealing with children, parents, volunteers and other staff members in a positive, enthusiastic and responsible manner is essential. Museum educators should also be available to help in the development and implementation of other museum programs and tasks on as-needed-bases. Additional programs and tasks include: Development and implementing tour, exhibit, outreach and workshop activities, exhibit refurbishment, upkeep of the museum office, classroom, and storage areas, special events, Exhibit Openings, and festivals.
Responsibilities:
- Develop curricula and write lesson plans for all programs as needed.
- Create examples and research activities used as teaching tools for classes, camps, school and community outreach, exhibits, special workshops and special events.
- Teach classes, drop-in workshops, and outreach classes.
- Maintain classroom, conduct inventory, and reorder materials with request form and prior approval from the Manager of Visitor Services and Programs.
- Serve as exhibit interpreter and implement programs.
Education:
B.A. or higher in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher
- Exceptional creativity and knowledge of current education theories
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Strong customer service and communication skills to deal with children, parents, volunteers and staff
- Experience developing and implementing curriculum
- Team player with a can-do attitude
