Volunteer Opportunities

Our teen volunteers assist staff in preparing and helping with hands-on activities during classes, help guide school groups, explain exhibits to our visitors, reset display props, and help with Children’s Birthday Parties. Class topics range from chemistry and biology to art, engineering, music and dance and many more, along with seasonal activities and events…
 
The Schoolhouse Teen Volunteer Program offers two ways to volunteer…
Summer Program: Volunteers commit to minimum 1 day (2 shifts) each week from June to August. The Museum will be accepting only 10 Teen Volunteers for the Summer Program.
Birthday Party Program: Volunteers commit to a minimum of 1 day (2 shifts) every month throughout the year, by volunteering on weekends. Minimum 6 month commitment required.
    
SHIFT TIMES
Summer  Program offers two shifts Tuesday – Friday
Morning: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm  /  Afternoon: 1:30 –  5:30 pm
Birthday Party Program offers two shifts on Saturday and/or Sunday:
Morning: 9:30 am – 1:30 pm  /  Afternoon: 1:30 –  5:30 pm
 
HOW TO APPLY:
To apply for the Schoolhouse Squad, please download and fill out the application.
 
Once completed, mail it, along with two letters of reference from non-family adults
and proof of minimum “C” grade average to:

Upon receipt of this application and related paperwork, you will be contacted for an interview. 
Upon acceptance into the program, a local background screening will be processed and Orientation and Training will be scheduled. 
A fee of $20.00 is due at Orientation, covering the cost of local background screening, volunteer T-shirt, badge, Orientation and Training Manual.

Adult Volunteers

College students, parents and grandparents have a wealth of knowledge to share. Whether guiding children through exhibits, leading an interactive craft or assisting in a class, adult volunteers serve as excellent museum interpreters and are an important part of our team!

Classroom Volunteer
Creative volunteers are needed to assist the Museum staff with hands-on activities
in our classes for museum visitors, school groups and our off-site Outreach Program.
Hours: Programs are regularly scheduled Monday-Saturday

Special Event Volunteer
From months before to the day of the event, many hands are needed
to support our special events. Help is always needed on Event Day-
from set-up and clean-up to the many tasks in between
-from ticket takers to popcorn makers - Come join the fun!
Theater Experience? Your expertise is needed from set design to assisting actors…
Photographer? Help document our events with photos & videos.
…Makeup Artist or Face Painter? …Puppeteer? Come join us!

Community Liaison
Staff a booth at local fairs and exhibits.

Museum Handyman
Your experience can help maintain and repair our exhibits.
We often have a “honey-do” list of projects that could use your expertise.
Hours: Flexible; as needed basis
 
...Or share your talent by assisting with the special projects such a constructing or refurbishing exhibits or filming a new history video.
